OPS! My bad! I read wrong,, sorry Louie!
I love corn chowder, my brother Bert, loves to swing, and listen to our girl's Ipod, he even sleeps with it! He does not go to school to learn how to swing, I think most sock monkeys just naturally know how to do that. I sit most of the time in the window of my girls (if you wana call her that, she's OLD! ) beautyshop. There are lots and lots of sock monkeys hanging from the celling there, just waiting to be adopted. Kathy, loves to bring new sock monkeys into the world. She feels everybody in the whole world no matter how old, should have a sock monkey. Bert mostly sits in Kathy's Tahoe in the sunshine in front of the shop. He likes to makes noises at peeples walking by. (you know, BOY noises) I'm not too sure how old I am in sock monkey years, but I was made less than a year ago, with the Iowa socks, not the vintage ones. So was Bert. kathy has learned most of what she knows about sock monkeys from her nice friends here at the Red Heel. It's a wonderful place to make friends.
Oh, and I love Vinny, he's a grumpy monkey that posts on here. But he's really not grumpy, just misunderstood. He likes me too, but won't say it out loud.
Bye!

Hi Vinny!

Speaking of.... we haven't seen thread nor seam of Vinny in a few weeks. Last I recall, he was asking Socky about buying girl sock monkeys in Japan. Hate to say it Vel, but I suspect that scoundrel Vinny has skipped the country with his human's credit cards and is probably sipping saki with some Japanese girl monkeys by now.

Sorry girlfriend. You're a nice girl and deserve a decent monkey boy.

Btw- when do we get to see you in your new Gingham Scouts uniform?

Oh Gin, I supose your right, I've just always loved the bad boys. If I don't hear from Vinny soon, I might just have to let go of my little crush.
I will take a picture this week and post it. I LOVE my new clothes! CoCo is a very talented monkey, do you sew too?

Hi Vel-

Coco's the seamstress in the house and I do some of the modeling for her clothing line, when I'm not working on building my career as a media correspondent.

Hi, Mix and Red Marie Velvet.

I'm right there with you guys. I lived in Columbus for a couple of years, and my only lament about leaving is that I no longer have access to Skyline Chili, purveyors of that fine Cincinnati-style concoction on a bun. With cheese. Lots and lots of cheese. It was heaven!!

And darn it all, as hard as I try I just... can't... replicate the flavor.

I've got to take Betty Ann Baker back to Ohio with me, somehow, so she try it. Maybe she'd have some insight into where I've been going wrong.

Red Marie, darlin', I'm awfully glad you like your new dress. Neither Veronica nor I actually made that one; we still have a few pieces from some doll clothes auctions.

Daisy Marie thought this one would look becoming on you for a Gingham Scouts uniform, and she was right! You're quite fetching!

Be most happy!

Mixy and Missus Melanee, here's a recipie I thought I'd share, its the closest I can find to the real thing.

Skyline Chili

"For those of us who live in Cincinnati, Ohio and eat this seemingly peculiar concoction regularly, the recipe below IS Cincinnati Chili (translate that Skyline, Gold Star or Empress Chili). There are no crushed tomatoes or chili powder in it and the ground beef is not pre-browned. The Worcestershire sauce, cider vinegar (not white), cloves, cumin, chocolate and cayenne pepper are all essential to the recipe as are the amounts of onion and garlic. Depending on the size of the pan used, the recipe can be doubled or tripled."

1 quart water
2 pounds ground chuck, crumbled
2 medium onions, finely chopped
5-6 cloves garlic, crushed (use garlic press) or minced
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
10 peppercorns, ground
8 whole allspice, ground
8 whole cloves, ground
1 large bay leaf
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 ounce unsweetened chocolate, grated

Bring water to boil in a 4-6 quart pot. Add the ground chuck (do not brown first). Stir until separated and reduce heat to simmer. Add onions, garlic, tomato sauce, cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to mix well. Add peppercorns, allspice, cloves, bay leaf, salt, cinnamon, cayenne pepper and grated unsweetened chocolate. Bring back to a boil, then reduce to simmer for 2 1/2 hours cooking time in all. Cool uncovered and refrigerate overnight.

Skim all or most of the fat and discard. Discard bay leaf. Reheat and serve over hot spaghetti, cooked al dente.

Optional toppings

Finely-grated Cheddar cheese, chopped onion, red kidney beans. Serve oyster crackers and red pepper sauce on the side.

Two-Way - spaghetti and chili

Three-Way - spaghetti, chili and Cheddar cheese

Four-Way - spaghetti, chili, Cheddar and chopped onion

Five-Way - spaghetti, chili, Cheddar, onions and red kidney beans

NOTE: The original recipe for Cincinnati Chili was created by John Kiradjieff and first served in Cincinnati's first chili parlor, The Empress, sometime in the 1920s.

Hi Ceru, Daisy Marie and Dee Dee

That is cool that you have a lof of sock creatures who are musicians. Yes, I am named after the very great Saint George. I do play musical instruments, sing on the roof top and dance in my bare feet. It's good meeting you all.

"Sometimes are good . . . sometimes are bad
That's all a part of life
And standing in between them all
I met a Mr. Grief - and he said

I welcome you to Crackerbox Palace
Was not expecting you
Let's rap and tap at Crackerbox Palace
Know that the Lord is well and inside of you"

Georgie

I was reading the back of the post card for Sock Monkey Dreams, the soon to be published book by Benny Hathaway about life at the Red Heel Monkey Shelter, and it said to check their site in the future for info on monkey meetups, so there haven't been any yet... unless you count a bunch of us going to the Rockford Sock Monkey Festival last month.

In general, meetups that other sites have held usually consist of somebody organizing a public place for anyone interested to meet at a set time and peeples and monkeys just show up. You can make it a picnic, park, or in a cafe, or something of interest to the group. In Rockford we held a Gingham Scouts meeting one night and had a monkey party and photo shoot another night, so monkeys from all over got to visit and pose with some of their online friends from other places. It was lots of goofy fun for us, and our peeples even had a good time.

There are quite a few pictures in other threads from that. We're near the Bay. We've only found a few other sock monkey pals in our area, but we figure there must be more out there.
