PLEASE READ THIS WHOLE MESSAGE BEFORE STARTING ANY MORE THREADS. THANK YOU.
Hello everybody. This is Wysi Wyg. I have some very important and necessary information about the way that the monkey message board works.
Yesterday, a number of threads were posted, and it bounced several older threads to something in the Novogate system called the Archives. The archives contain threads that have not been posted on for more than thirty days.
Threads do not get bounced to the archives unless there are over 100 topics in the "active" memory of Novogate.
Unfortunately, when threads get bounced to the archives, the system no longer recognizes avatars, and the thread can no longer be responded to. Losing the avatars is bad enough, but losing the ability to respond to a thread is really sad -- as you've learned on the monkey board, old threads can be brought up and made new again quite easily.
Once a thread has been bounced to the archives, there is no way to bring it back to active board status short of everyone exactly copying their messages again.
We would like to maintain as many threads with our avatars and with possibility for response as possible. The Red Heel Message Board is READ by many more people than post on it, and we want our readers to have the full effect of the stories, which means maintaining avatars, and being able to respond if they've gotten here late. If you read the threads in the archive (posted below) you'll find they aren't nearly as funny without our pictures.
What this means is that we really want you to make certain that STARTING a new thread is creatively best for the Monkey Message Board and is not a mere self-indulgence on your part. If you have something to say, see if it can be fit into an existing thread rather than starting a new thread.
Too many small threads make the board harder to read, anyway.
We want you to post, just make sure before starting new topics that you really NEED to start a new topic. If not, post what you have to say in another, relevant thread.
Thanks for respecting the message board. In the future, if too many threads are being started, we are going to have to start deleting repetitive or lightly travelled threads.
Here is a link to the archive, so everyone can see which threads can't be used anymore.
I'm going to miss a lot of them.

Sox, your Daily Life thread is pretty much like that already!
And so is the thread your sisters are posting on. Those are good threads and I don't want to delete them.
It's all right to post new threads when they have the potential to go on for a while, it's just posting threads that have no chance of taking on a real life of their own that we ALL have to watch.
I have been fighting the system to keep things out of the archive for some time now, behind the scenes. Which is why sometimes a thread gets deleted. (For those of you who may have noticed and might have been wondering.)
I had no idea that SO MANY threads would be bumped to the archives when we reached our limit, so I didn't say anything before it happened.
Now that we all know to be more careful, the board can just get better?

Hello Sox! Pleese do not be unhappy! Your "daily life" thread is one of the best ones, ever! Until Wysi Wig is not so busy, that is a very good one to play on! And your "sisters" thread is not silly at all! In fact, I think I have a word or to to say about sisters today!!

Oh, Lil Sox! You don't have to start over to "start over," if you get my meanings! If you want to be called something new, just tell peeples you have a new name, and we will call you that! "Sox" can just be just like your screen name or something! Plus, you can change your picture all the time, and look different, but still be you-- only also being different! But still all the way through be my friend Sox, or Lil Sox, or even Soxa-loxa-dai-dai if that strikes your fanciness!
All at the same timings, I am thinking that the more you embrace what you have already said and pictured and done, then the more satisfactions you will feel when you have new adventures with the self you already are and everybody loves! I truly beleef this!
Just ask Tess if I am of a right thinking!

I went back and deleted some of my posts that only had about 2 or 3 responses to them. That way it will leave more room for the better posts. They sucked anyway! how big can we get the other posts? 4 or 5 pages? Now that we know this, I'm sure we can all "save up" space so everyone will be able to stay in one place. you know, not go to that arkive place. Thats sounds spooky, doesn't it? I hope I never go there! Yikes!

The threads themselves can go to 500 Posts Per, so that's no problem.
Reggie and I are looking for a board with a deeper thread capacity that may suit the community more. Keep watching this space!
Don't worry about deleting past threads. Let the admins take care of that!
And please, no one think that this is some sort of totalitarian move -- it's OK if stuff goes to the archive. I was unprepared for HOW MUCH stuff would get shuffled there, but it's an inevitable part of message board growth.
Just let's all start our threads responsibly, and post in established ones IF posting there makes sense! And if you have any questions, let's let this thread be where we thresh out "board" ettiquette!
It's everybody's board, so we want to try to make everybody happy.

Since you seem to be the chap that might be able to answer my question, is there a reason that I am no longer considered a long time resident? Recently, in a discussion with the Arch Demon Fred, I discovered that my "tag," as it were, under my name states "new resident" whereas previous to the new year, it was "long time resident." I only ask because of the impression that it might portray - that I am new here rather than someone who has been around a while. Granted, I have been lax of late in posting, but that is only because I have been busy dealing with a rather nasty nest of vamps, but I was rather excited when I finally reached "ltr" status. Is there anything that you can do to help? Is there an actual system for these tags? Many thanks, Wysi Wyg!

Could have something to do with the archive situation. Those titles come from number of posts made, not amount of time on the board. I'm not sure what happened. Perhaps you were right over the line, and when I deleted some threads it knocked you back under. Considering that few of the monkeys who actually live at the Red Heel are "Long Term Residents" even though some of us have been here for nigh unto a decade and that Sox is a "Long Term Resident" even though she's only been here about two weeks, I wouldn't worry about it.

Sox, she posts the same thing over and over again, and while that is kind of funny at first it is starting to drive me nuts, but how does she have too many threads? It's true, there are too many advice columns on the Red Heel Message Board already, but anyway. Don't drag me into you guys fighting with each other. If someone is misbehaving on the message board and something needs to be done, we will do it.
