Well, I blew it. I tried to rename this thread again, but must have accidentally clicked on the "delete thread option," because this thread has vanished. I apologize for the error and will be doing my best to restore the relevant parts of what was actually a pretty great Red Heel Thread.

You can get to the old thread from here to do screen shots or save favorite discussions:

You may notice that the link to the deleted thread starts on page two. It seems the Novogate Message Board system deletes threads by removing the first page only. So pages two through five are intact, but one is gone.

Here is a google cached version of the first page.

http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache...us&ct=clnk&cd=1

Again, my apologies everyone.

I did not make a wig, but to do Hildurs hair, I hot glue every strand, starting from the back, working up to the to the top, and around the ears, to a middle part, so I could put her hair in piggy tails, pony tails, or up in a 1/2 pony. I also cut bangs, and some strands around her face, it really turned out great, she has a massive amount of hair, but its what makes her so adorible.

well that was my second option individually adding each piece. But i just sorta winged it and made a simple wig by sewing it between two pieces of paper and then taking the paper off and im currently tacking it down. I figure i'll style it and tack that down as well. I may try the individual pieces next time and see if that's better.

Tamara talks a little bit about the process she went through for Princess Leia's wig in the thread for her entry at Craftster.

I saw that and asked maybe some day if she could make a tutorial about her process. I'm sure I'll get through this, and that the giftee will be pleased no matter what.

Here she is all finished, I think she turned out better than I anticipated. I compiled a few different techniques into one.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I was really relieved it worked so well, I was sort of running blind for the most part.

Nice-lookin' hair, Brittany!

I've used a couple of different techniques. For short hair, fur works nicely... just cut it to shape and sew it down along the edges.

For longer hair, I do individual strands. I use a yarn needle to run traditional yarns, feathery-type materials used in knitting, or anything else that seems threadable. I found it easiest to cut pieces twice the length I need, run each one part-way through the fabric on the skull, the pull the rest of the piece through and let it hang evenly. This prevents the need for tie-off in monkey models not intended for little kids.

Once I used feathers:

I had to attach those to a base fabric and sew that to the head.

I've also used pom-poms for a couple of monkeys, albeit I have to confess to using the hot glue gun on those. Threading each one would be the proper way to do it.

Happy monkey making!

But we could creat the FFMAP! (Federal Flying Monkey Air Patrol) that would monitor flight patterns and coordinate air routes so no monkeys would get hurt!

Friends, I have copied the following question from a newly started thread elsewhere on the board.

Humbly yours,

Here I am in the land of Oz and all the way "down under" the sock monkey can seem a bit of a mystery. I was wondering if there were others who didn't live in North America who might like to help me with things like where to get the "Red Heel" socks without having to pay the exchange rate PLUS the gianormous shipping rates. I have made two sock cousins out of socks from the shops (Bonds Explorer) but I dream of getting my hands on the real deal. If anyone can help please shout out!

Hi Monte!
It sounds like you need a bath, and since we can't count on Vinny to give you THAT information on account of he hates soap, just tell your tattooed and mohawked owner to put you in a sink of warm sudsy water (shampoo rinses out the easiest and makes you smell good too) and squeeze you gently without twisting you. After you get clean, then you rinse under running water.
Now comes the scary part, at least for me. You have to get between 2 medium towels, or one big one, and get squeezed and squeezed.
After that, my maker hangs us out in the sun to dry the rest of the way.
Most importantly, WE NEVER EVER USE ANY MACHINES IN THE BATHING PROCESS!
Thanks for asking, and stop in any time you want.
Your friend,
Giacamo
