Oh my snarf! Auntee Girl! S'monkeys! Peeps o' my heart!

We at the Sunnyflower Farm are greatly aghast at your highly undeserved misfortune! How are you feeling? I hope you're not in too much pain. Has your computer recovered? Are the monkeys being helpful while you're laid up? Do you need soup? I can get you soup....

Please tell Percy not to feel badly on our account; we'll look forward to his Wonga La La submission.

Many (gentle) hugs from everyone at the S-Farm, and
Missus Mel'nee

This is a new guy that was born in my Beauty Shop this week. Actually there were 10 of them, but this guy got a new hand made faux giraffe/untrasuede jacket, matching hat and boots! He is on his way to connecticut this weekend. Pony Express (we are in Nebraska) should have him there next week sometime. He was made with the last vintage sock I had. I was glad he turned out so nice. he has a sweet little bakelite vintage button holding his jacket together.

You are an A#1 sock monkey maker, Miss Kathy! We of the Mountain Family are quite handily impressed
If the folks in Connecticut don't treat that handsome simian with a lot of TLC, they are in B-I-G trouble!
Happy Saturdaying!

Kathy, what a great sock monkey with loads of personality! The giraffe print is great. I love to see what other makers are doing, it seems to inspire my own monkey making.

Happy Saturday!

I'm trying to make some Halloween Costumes for the "Cracker Barrel" monkeys who want to go trick-or-treating. Does anyone have any good ideas for costumes that they would be willing to share?

I have one who is the most lopsided face and lumpy sock monkey I've ever seen. We've decided he needs to go dressed as Quasi-Modo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

I saw marth Stewart make a great easy pumpkin costume for a child last week, it could easily be modified for a monkey, super simple, had a draw string around the neck and arms and leg holes, and a cute stem hat/mask. the hat could easily be made with felt.

the video has a few promos, so the costume demonstration is about 1/2 way through.

We are in a monkey makin' mood at Totally Kathy's this week. Lots of monkeys have been made and leaving the PO. We even send a monkey to England to a child for his 1st birthday!
These guys were just born this week and were adopted today.

Sally, Bart wants to know if you will go trick or treating with him? He wants to be a Prince, and you the Princess.

I'm so excited! I just got my first order for a sock monkey. The order is for a sweet little monkey with an extra long skinny tail for a preschooler.

I went to JoAnn's to find fabric for the outfit - ended up buying the fabric off ebay, but Janlynn has repackaged it's basic sockmonkey kit "Peejay" and they've also lowered the price.

I've been buying socks off ebay, but it can get pretty pricey. How do most of the posters buy their socks?

Also, this monkey needs to be baby safe. So instead of using buttons for the eyes, I was going to stitch big black fleece circles for a wide eyed look.

Lastly, I normally hand-stitch all my monkeys - but we don't have any kids, so ours are for display only. I wonder if a hand-stitched monkey will survive play with a 4 year old boy.

I could use any advice anyone would care to share. Thank you--

Happy Saturday!

Thanks Tamara. Almost 3 weeks on crutches, walking now, but still have to elevate a lot so it's really cutting into my sewing and computing, plus there is this funky lump on my achilles.

Congratulations on your marathon! Coco is a little jealous because she was hoping to have a celebratory photo like Ceru, at the Big Sur half marathon next month. Maybe next year. (Although we're walkers, not runners.)

Kathy. Those poms and polka dots together are cute!

Thanks! It was very fun. I am sorry your injury kept you from your event. I would love to do any of the Big Sur races. Talk about beautiful scenery! I am sure you will make it next year! And if your a walker- you should look into the Portland Marathon- it's one of the most walker friendly marathons in the US. I walked it in '99, had a fantastic time.

On the monkey making front I just finished a project that felt like a marathon.
I have been putting together kits for people for a while and offering them with the machine stitching done for those that don't have sewing machines (or that just want that part done).

Well, I got an order from a school for 100 pre-sewn kits. Grades 3-6 are going to make sock monkeys in art class! I thought that was so neat. I would have loved to learn how to do that kind of thing in grade school.
Took me a long time and I think I went through several miles of thread, but I can't wait to hear how it goes. I hope they take some pictures. I'd love to see a class full of kids with their monkeys.

Beanie says that she gets most of her monkey skins at Hobby Lobby using the 40 percents off coupon that comes in the paper every week. You get 2 pairs of monkey skins for $9.99 and forty percent off makes it about $6 for 2 monkeys! Or if she wants differnt sizes of monkey skins than she gets them from the Sock Company online. They have 3 packages of socks (2 pairs per package) for I think $21 and sometimes they have free shipping promotions and stuff.

I don't know about the sewing part of your questions because I can use the sewing machine and everything. Beanie moved the pedal up high so I can reach it all by myself. Someones else is going to have to answer that.

Thanks Sally! I didn't even know that Hobby Lobby sold monkey skins. I will have to check them out, there's one in Kalamazoo that I could try.

I found some heavy thread that I might use for hand sewing.

Happy sewing!

Tamara, WOW! Good for you - 100 presewn monkeys! That is sooo much work. Did you happen to get a picture of yourself with all the monkeys before delivery? If so, please post it - I would love to see all those monkeys. I don't think I could handle such a big project!! I was stressed out after making 14 quillows for Christmas gifts.

Happy sewing!

Oh Boy! We could almost go Tricker Treating at your house! We live by Kalamazoo too!
The monkey skins at Hobby Lobby are in the aisle with all the doll making things like wigs and eyeballs and such. It's a little creepy in that aisle.

Howdy Miss Millie-

Yep, this is the appropriate thread for humans to post Peeps ask questions about monkey making and show some of their work. Sometimes people post in the other threads, and as long as they behave themselves the monkeys don't seem to mind so much.

Hi-I'm the resident Grandma at Sock Monkey Ranch and I'm tickled pink to have a place to show off my newest creations. Here's one I finished today. Her name is Katy and she's a bit of a punk monk, complete with diamond nose stud.
