Our team doesn't wear team shirts, but everyone expects this little monkey to be wearing a bowling shirt by the time of the bowling banquet. Anyway, I have to figure something out. My next mission is to find a mini "bowling ball" and shoes.

I think the ball is going to be fairly easy -- maybe just a modified wooden ball painted to look like a bowling ball.

Shoes should also be fairly easy. If I could find some little pieces of vinyl for the tops and sides and then use felt for the soles... Thank goodness we have Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and a JoAnn's all within a 45 minute drive!

Happiness is a well dressed sock monkey!

I did it! Here is a picture of the very first homemade sockosimian made by me:

It was not so easy as I had hoped. I made every mistake that I could and had to redo most of it at least one extra time, sometimes two. Still, she is lovely and I'm glad I now know what not to do. Her name is Eve.

PS: I bought the dress, I can't sew enough to do that.

Hello Eve!

She's lovely. Monkey making gets easier with practice, and you develop your own short cuts and style.

Greetings from Rockford! We arrived Thursday night and are looking forward to a weekend packed with sockosimian friends. Cinnamon came along too, and says to send her best wishes to Googlie.

Eve is just beautiful, What a good name for your "first" monkey.
Here is the bowling shirt I came up with. Chelle, send me your address on my email and I will send out to you. Even if you buy one at the Festival, you can have this one also.

thank you for the kind words and encouragement, Tamara and Jombi. I've started on my next sockosimian and it does seem to be going better. I thought I'd made all the mistakes I could on Eve, but I'm finding new ones to make just the same.

Jombi, the bowling shirt is fabulous!!!!! You are a gifted seamstress. I'm afraid my creations will have to be happy with store-bought clothes, at least for the time being.

I remember my first sock monkey...I used red-heel socks but they weren't Rockfords...I made it to impress a friend..shortly thereafter I became completely addicted and they have been a big part of my life ever since.
I wish I could find a picture of that one.

Don Quixote is finally finished on on his way to the Dominican Republic. Yay!
This was by far the most challenging costume I've ever faced.

Thanks to Joel for the great foto references and ideas.

Oh my gosh! Amazing things have been happening since I last logged in. Jombi, what a beautiful little bowling shirt. You are so wonderful to help me out like this! I will send you my info asap, although I hope you will let me pay you for it.

Eve is a wonderfully sweet sock monkey! She has very expressive eyes. Half of my boy monkeys are in love with her and asking me if they can send her flowers!

Don Quiote (did I spell that right?) is absolutely fabulous! I am just awed by your creativity. I wish I was that creative. He is great! You should be very proud.

Thank you all for a much needed boost to my day --

It must be the placement of the planets. Everyone is feeling creative. I still think it is the cabin fever here.

Olivia, I remember going to the dollar store and finding the blueheel cheapy socks to make Lacie and Jesse, my granchildren, a sock monkey, Lacie had mentioned that she saw one in someones car and asked me about them. I just remembered as a kid seeing them around. The blues brothers where born.
Chelle, got your email, the shirt will be sent out right away. But if you have a name for your team, I can stitch the name on the back of the shirt. You let me know. ;-)

sharonm1tx, Do you stuff through the crotch or the mouth? Over the process, I noticed I can cover up the mouth better than the horrible stretched out threads and runs in the crotch. But you seem to be doing just super! It takes patiences and determination. If you want a sock monkey you can do it.

Tamara, As always, you do such great work. You DQ is so cute. Love his grey hair and wiskers.

I agree, the planets must be aligned perfectly, at least in order for me to be sewing.

Tamara, WOW on the Don Quixote sockosimian!!! That is just amazing. You have captured his essence. I bet he speaks with a spanish accent.

Jombi, thanks for the tip. I have had problems with runs on both Eve and the guy I'm working on now. I'll try stuffing through behind the mouth next time. A friend of mine also suggested ironing stitch with around the places I was going to cut before I cut them to help with unravelling and runs, but I haven't tried that so far.

Great D.Q. Tamara! What did you end up using for the armor? Didja know that one of the Miss Sockford contestants was wearing one of your outfits? She was very proud of it and told the crowd all about it and who had made it!

Thanks! I used a very thick, stiff interfacing. It was fusible on both sides. I covered it with crepe satin.

I didn't know anyone was headed to the festival with any of my monkey clothes. I'd love to know what it was.

Jombi- that is a very nice bowling shirt.

Jombi, Our bowling team name has changed every year along with our team sponsor. The current thought is to have a sock monkey team name to go along with our new mascot - so we will be thinking long and hard about team names for next year.

I went fabric shopping about bought the cutest fabric for a little Easter dress for a girl sock monkey. Hopefully, I can find time to sew tomorrow.

I still have to finish unpacking from the Rockford trip and then maybe I can print out the many pictures stored on my camera.

There just aren't enough hours in the day...

I have the best of ALL news! My makers stitches have all melted away! I told her this is not a good thing for sock monkeys' stitches to be melting away and she said she knows that but she is so happy that I am happy too! She is going to write at length about it all tomorrow, but I just had to tell you all!
You are all so great, and we love you ever so much!

Oh Yay Mikey! That is fabulous news. Perhaps Annie is a bit Irish, with some good luck befallin' her on St. Paddy's Day. We all thought about her while we were gathered in Rockford last week and were wishing the best for her recovery.

I look forward to hearing the latest news from Annie and the Mountain Family.

Thanks for sharing Coco! That has to be the one Joel was thinking of. And it looks like MMOS stunt double is very fond of you.

Mikey- Please give Annie a hug from Ceru and me. We are so glad she is healing.

Lastly, here is the latest Sock Monkey girl off to a new home.

Seems I am getting mostly what I've started to call 'portrait monkeys' lately.

Jombi, I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful little monkey bowling shirt. It is absolutely perfect. I will have to try to post a picture later.

Yesterday, I went to the new JoAnn's and used my 50% off coupon to buy a sock monkey kit. I'm feeling inspired and I just might make a "spring" sock monkey today.

Thanks again!

Chelle, I'm so glad you like it, but even happier that you are inspired too try a monkey yourself. I just love sewing and using my sewing machine. I try to find things to sew. Just keep at that monkey and don't give up. If you even do it by hand it will be fine. Just remember, some of the first monkey makers didn't even have any directions, only a child waiting for her to make a little monkey friend. Your that child today and the groundup person in you is making it for the child in you. Well you know what I mean

My oh My things happen in bundles around here!

Just when I was getting all better and my stitches had almost all melted away, we got to move to a new place with a pond and ducks and catfish! It really is true that thinkin is best done by the water. We are all so happy here and there are lots of trees for the monkeys to climb, and a mondo area for our dogs to play.
Thanks to everyone for their happy wishes and thoughts at Rockford and everywhere else I just love you all so much.
Has the festival come and gone already? I sure hope everyone had a good good time.

Kathy, would you add me to your yahoo list during one of your brief ops on your computer? We have a new phone number that I would love to give you cresent_moonwrench@yahoo.com
I am so proud of you for going to school and learning so many new things. We love you.

Mostly though, I am just happy to be back on the board amongst all our friends...you have all been sorely missed by me.
Love, Annie
