what's up with this "dancing with your sock monkey"?
Hi Knitty!
Dancing with your sock monkey was this thing for peeples I guess because I dint see any monkeys that had monkeys. It was a mat on the floor that had those circles on it and you watched the TV and had to make your feets move the way they told you to and go faster and faster and faster to differnt kinds of musics. It looked like a hit with the teenager crowd of peeples. That man that I saw in the picksures from last year that was the MC at the pageant was sort of monitoring the Dancing crowd. He had a flowery shirt on.
Your friend,
Sally

Posted 03-23-08 06:36 PM It was nice meeting you, Mickie and Clyde. Look forward to seeing you again soon, and chatting on the board.
So while we are hoping to put together a "Best of the Podcast" in the near future I want to continue our Rockford rundown with some photography from the Ham-Town Summit, held at the lovely Ham-Town Inn in Hotel Row in Rockford Stripsville (and no I'm not talking about Hooters, Gerry) USA. It was a wild and crazy time! We met new monkeys, saw some old friends and had nice conversation, dancing, Ginghaming, and more.
I do warn you that this photo journalistic exercise was seriously curtailed by Link's absence. Many of the pictures we took just came out too dark!
Old friends, of course are seen here in the form of Overly and Munkadelic, who clung to each other like they'd never once been anywhere near a drier sheet. New friends, for most everybody, included the two new Upside Downer residents of the Red Heel Monkey Shelter, Namath (the little guy) and Heismann (the slightly less little guy).

Ginghamamma Willajean is currently on retreat at a special Gingham Scout session for compulsive gambling, so this year's Scout Meeting was chaired by The Gingham Scout Leader himself.

Most of the scout members agreed that this led to a somewhat drier scout meeting than usual - the GSL is not apparently prone to giggleoffs, and mainly talked about things like responsibility and hygiene. Samantha Brown inherited Sally's old dress for the duration of the meeting, while everyone was dazzled by Sally's new one. Samantha in Sally's old dress pompted old concerns about whether or not she has legs.
Aside from the talking and socializing, the most dramatic moment of the summit came when three peeples from Pennsylvania walked into the lobby and were stunned to come face to face with a room full of sock monkeys.

After a quick sizing up from the two "sides" a great deal of fun was had by all. We learned that these ladies were all "Grandmas" who had given birth to sock monkeys in the past. Quickly they were named "Honorary Grandma laureates for Rockford 2008" and were handed the magic sewing needles. They also agreed to pose with the monkeys of their choice. Being Pennsylvanians, they unsurprisingly picked the upside downers - as a strong number of upside downers seem to come from that area.

There was, of course, a big group shot of all the monkeys and their drivers that attended the festival.

When it was time to get in the boxes and tubs and bags and things and get driven back to our respective rooms, there were only two left "standing" as they say in people parlance. Guess who it was? Sally did indeed have to pry them apart.

Riding back in the tub with Overly I can verify that the separation was fairly traumatic.

Posted 03-24-08 10:36 PM NRRR that video and those pictures make me want to go more than ever!
I'm gonna work on my human to see if I can get her to go. Or, better yet, since it's so COLD in ROCK-FORD (I heard someone say it was SEVEN DEGREES OUT in the video) maybe they can move Rock-Ford-Town to Honolulu where it's A LOT WARMER and peoples don't have to wear NEARLY such heavy clothing?
... I'm gonna stow away on the next plane to Rock-Ford, I [Edited by Mrs. Tiffany] swear it.

Posted 03-25-08 01:20 AM Eve I can't believe you didn't win the couture part of the Miss Sockford competition in your Coco original. Do they still have a couture category??
You were robbed! ROBBED!! It's like a horrific repeat of 2006, when Coco herself entered wearing an original pink satin evening dress and they gave the couture award to a store-bought monkey wearing a kilt. To this day, Coco doesn't wear plaid because the memory it too painful.
Those Rockford judges don't know sock monkey fashion when it drives up to their museum and dances on their stage.

Posted 03-25-08 01:27 AM I'm perplexed. Obviously the custom evening gown I wore in 2006 was a little too sophisticated for a small Midwestern pageant. Those judges probably didn't even grasp the complexity of the design and probably thought it was something off the rack.
But this year I thought Eve would be a ringer in that gingham frock with the matching reversible handbag. I pulled out all the stops, with the puffy sleeves and rick-rack trim, in an effort to appeal their Midwestern sensibilities.
What's a monk gotta do to get the couture award in Rockford, wear a dang Peaches uniform??

Posted 03-25-08 01:53 AM Yeah. I'll get her to sew herself shirts made of monkey socks. They'd be way too heavy to wear in Hawai'i, so she'd have to go to Rock-Ford to wear 'em. And she'll wanna show 'em off, I'm sure.
*rubs hands together until they're threadbare, cackling*
I'll get her there in 2009, just you wait, and you'll see my charmingly uneven eyes and double-arched unibrow!
Now the thing is I'm mother naked. Time to sew up some CLOTHES. I sewed my own tag on, so I've got experience now, so sewing clothes ought to be easy. Right? I'll win Mr. Sockford '09 for sure!

In your dreams! I might compete in '09, which means the rest of you might as well stay home. Small town pageants are a great stepping stone to the Miss Sock World competition, and oodles of product endorsements.

Posted 03-25-08 09:29 PM We were all so excited about watching the video from Rockford, we watched it over and over and SUPERMONK! filled us in on all the details. It was fun to hear what everyone sounds like. 'Cept Kathy wanted to see the munkey makers so she knew who everyone is, we are still a bit confused which makers belong to what munkeys. SUPERMONK! was no help with that at all. Thanks for showing us all the pictures and moovies. We will be there next year for sure!

Posted 03-26-08 07:17 PM All the Bull City Monks are gathered around watching the video over and over, especially the monks who didn't get to go.
Kathy, it was much easier to tell the peeples apart now that i have actually seen them. Wayland & Sharon from the Bull City Monkey Home are on the video. Sharon is a round woman with pink hair, pretty hard to miss her. Wayland holds up Gerry from Rockford and says, "Yes, but it was a dry cold." Sharon made me. Other monks from Durham you may have seen post on the board are Quite the Dude, Ms. Kitchen Longtail (who didn't get to go to Rockford this year, and she's a little miffed about it), Barnabas, Elizabeth Sportster and her brother Lance Sportster, Googlie (of course), Ma Rainey, McGyver, Sock (he is our first prime) and the Bobbin.

thank u for asking, Bert. Bull City is called by peeples Durham, North Carolina. I don't think it reelly has anything to do with cattle, but Durham is where chewing tobacco was thunk of, then cigarettes, which nowadays is not such a great thing as it used to be. sum politicians have decided that Durham should now be called the City of Medicine stead of the Bull City, but we are keepin our name just as it is.

Posted 03-28-08 09:45 AM We used to have a Monkey Roll Call thread but I don't think anyone has used it lately. I can't remember.
Munkadellic, Chester Poindexter, Stubbs Magillicutty, CoolCuke and Moi all live with Beanie. Oh, and Peejay who is one of the monkeys that the Grammys picked out to hold in that one picture. He is still chattering on about it all the time. And there is Miss Turtle that you can see in the Gingham Scouts meeting in the back with a Ginghammy sash on with green eyes. And I can't leave out Belly and Les Stroud, Survivormonk. We all have so much fun together but it is really really fun when we get to see all the other monks from all the other places.
